WARNING: Do not install unless power is removed from the machine. We are not responsible for burnt boards which resulted from installing while the machine is plugged in. Plugging in a spark device while the machine is powered can cause a surge that might burn the machine boards
After confirming that the Smartphone used in testing the machine has correct settings. The next step is to identify if the issue is caused by Spark or machine-related.
During the troubleshooting, you might be required to use ShineTech. Here is a link to complete guide in using ShineTech to test the Sparks: https://shinepay.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/67000092680-how-to-use-shinetech
For coin-operated machines:
- Put a coin into the machine and confirm that the machine doesn't register the Quarter
- If it does register the Quarter with the Spark installed, it is not a physical installation issue. It is a software issue.
- If it doesn't register a Quarter you can download the ShineTech app and scan to see if the Spark has power
- If it does have power and it is plugged in correctly the next thing you can test is to ensure that the machine registers a Quarter when the coin mech is plugged directly into the machine. One of the possibilities of why a good Spark wouldn't work in a good machine would be the machine not being configured for coin
- Even card-op machines can be configured for a coin. These machines are many times not by default configured for a coin.
If it doesn't have power, we need to check if the Spark is plugged-in correctly. The best way to confirm this is to send a video of (1) the connection to the coin mech (2) the connection to the computer (3) optional on some machines but you should check the power connector and upload via Google Drive or iCloud and share the link to Support.

For card-ready or non-coin-operated machines:
- Use the ShineTech app to confirm if the Spark is receiving power
- If it is receiving power and you can see it in the ShineTech app; try activating the Spark from the ShineTech app
- If it doesn't activate the machine the spark is:
- defective
- Not plugged-in correctly - send a video of (1) the connection to the coin mech (2) the connection to the computer (3) optional on some machines but you should check the power connector and upload via Google Drive or iCloud and share the link to Support.
- Attached to a machine not configured for coin
- If it is not showing up on the ShineTech app
